Ballroom dancing is starting to grow in popularity, but in the United States it is still not as popular as other countries. There is a group of ballroom dancers in Oklahoma who are in the process of promoting ballroom dance to not only adults but to the youths in their area as well. As part of this project, they are working with USA Dance of Central Oklahoma to sponsor a ballroom dance competition this month. Read more about this effort and the competition here.
The venue is booked. The dress is fitted. The flowers are picked. The catering menu is ordered. Everything seems to be going according to plan—until you realize you haven’t learned your PERFECT FIRST WEDDING DANCE—t he few glorious (or disastrous) moments that will last well beyond the day! The cake will be eaten, the dress will go into storage, the flowers will wilt, and the tuxes will return from whence they came, but the time you two will spend learning your perfect wedding dance— time that will begin with lessons together months before the wedding –will remain one of your most treasured memories, even after many years.
Your perfect first wedding dance is the joining of your two unique personalities to create one beautiful expression of your love and commitment. To experience your perfect first dance, you— as a couple –should seek lessons at least 90 days before the big date. If you, like the hundreds of other couples who learned their Wedding Dance at Prestige, can open up your calendars during the time you are learning to dance, the impossible becomes possible! New dancers, especially those new to partner dance, need a healthy dose of repetition and practice. If you give yourself (and each other) the time and space to learn, your first dance will wow your guests and be a smashing success!
During your first visit to Prestige Ballroom Dancing, not only will you have a fun time (think—date night), your instructor will also introduce you to the basics of wedding dance, listen to your ideas about the reception, and help you craft your ideal wedding dance . At the end of your wedding consultation and introductory dance lesson, you will have a clear idea of what your wedding dance will look like, a plan to get there, and the confidence that you will look fabulous together, in your first public presentation as Husband and Wife!
Dance with confidence at Prestige Ballroom Dancing!Click here to Dance with Confidence!
Dancing with confidence is not about know all the right steps or perfect execution. It’s about Bouncing Back…experienced leads laugh off mistakes and enjoy yourself! The following is an excerpt of an essay written by John Sanderson published in Waltzing, A Manual for Dancing and Living, written by Stanford Professor, Richard Powers and his former student, Nick Enge.
“The following observation came while I was sick and sitting in the balcony. By now I have come to know who some of the most experienced dancers are. I had a good vantage point from the balcony to notice which Leads seemed to have the most headroom; these were the Leads for whom the dances were easy enough that they had some capacity to be playful with variations.
“In observing these Leads, I was struck by the fact that they made mistakes just as frequently as everyone else. They just bounced back from the more easily. Whereas less confident dancers would be thrown off for several measures by such a mistake, those I was observing were promptly right back in the swing of things, laughing it off with their partners. They seemed to have better internalized the idea we all strive for, to dance for the sheer enjoyment of it, with less concern for doing perfect footwork.”
Prestige Ballroom Dancing can give you the confidence to dance and have fun!
This past Friday was a blast! The Argentine Tango is such a unique and fun dance to learn! We worked on 3 basic steps from the Argentine Tango- the walking basic, the cross basic, and ochos. Steps are very similar to ballroom Tango, yet they are so different at the same time! With Argentine Tango, the leader has to be so much more in tune with the follower and her feet. Everyone did a great job and the evening was awesome!
