Let’s be real, everyone wants to dance on their wedding day. Its supposed to be one of the most perfect days of your life; you finally found that one person who is willing to put up with you for the rest of your life, so obviously you’d want to hold them on the dance floor throughout your special night. In fact maybe you even choreographed your first dance (which I highly recommend, but maybe I’m biased). If that’s the case then you may be wondering what type of wedding shoes you should wear based on your dance, and you’re in luck because Prestige Ballroom is hear to help!
So lets get down to business!!
Usually there are four different types of wedding shoes that we usually hear at the studio: heels, flats, flip flops, and barefoot. if you have a song that involves large strides, sweeping motions or quick movements such as a fast salsa, swing dance, or a more advanced foxtrot or waltz. Then it is usually best to wear shoes that you can comfortably make those movements in, like flats or going barefoot. In fact these types of footwear can be worn for any type of dance, but some people have their heart set on a particular set of heals to complete that perfect outfit. Which is completely reasonable, but it does present some limitations.
However, there are some options that are available, if you do have your heart set on that perfect pair of six inch kicks.
Option one is to pick a wedding dance that allows you to move in your wedding shoes without falling over or breaking an ankle, such as a slow salsa, rumba, foxy, or a toned down foxtrot or waltz. This way you can keep your shoes and your grace while strutting your stuff in front of all your family and friends. The next option is to have another pair of shoes on deck (maybe a nice pair of flats). Its sort of a middle ground in case you were set on both your shoes and your dance. The final option is to get lessons and practice a lot. You’ll see videos of these dancers sweeping off the dance floor in these super high heels, but they didn’t just strap those on and walk out on the floor. It takes practice. So if you have an amazing pair of shoes that you really want to show off in front of everyone for a beautiful dance then sign up for some lessons. We have several packages for wedding couples that include a personally choreographed dance to your song, as well as general lessons if you wanted to dance with class all night.
No matter what your wedding will be perfect, but now you can be a little more worry free knowing what shoes you should wear based on the song you will be dancing too. Or what type of song you should pick based on what shoes you will be wearing.
